I wanted to post a few pictures that we've taken along the way: Look at how much fun Analia is having! She just loved the little rides we have at the mall.

The rides are so cute too!

Analia and Maya are sharing everything lately--bedroms, baths, and even colds. Yes, right now they are both sick with a nasty cough and runny nose, and they have been for over a week. It's getting old. I love this picture because it's the one time when the girls are sharing a toy that Maya isn't crying! Cute.

Analia got into my makeup bag and found the mascara. Nice job, I would say.

And this is smilin' Maya tonight in the bath. Even though she's coughing and running her nose away, she just loves the bath and can't help but have fun. I think this is one of the best pictures of her. Wow. She's beautiful.

In other news, we haven't taken any pictures of this, but we are beginning to potty train Analia. So far it's going okay...we've had success a couple of times, but it's slow going. Any advice from you professional parents? I've already told her that when she gets good at going potty, then we can get her some Little Mermaid undies, and she's excited, but that's a long way off.
Analia's latest quotes:
every morning: "i waked up" and "maya's wake"
when she doesn't want my help: "my do it" and "my help"
after she gets in trouble, she says "sorry maya, we fest friends, huh mom"
when I ask her a question, she says, with her finger to her lips, "um..."
Turns out, moving is really hard. Especially with kids. I am totally missing everyone--I'm trying to make new friends though, but that is slow going too. I feel like I need to stay connected the best I can with my family and friends--it's good to know that friends are out there, even though they are REALLY far away.
Love you all.

aaww! cute pictures of your growing girls! I know what you mean about having a hard time with moving. We love being closer to family but we really miss all our friends! We haven't really gotten to meet new families here like we'd like too....its hard when everyone's so busy. Hang in there! We're doing the same!
As for potty training....I used the Farmers Almanac to see when the best 'time of the month' was the start potty training and if they're ready you just go cold turkey and put them in panties. You have to be home and remind them every hour to go potty for a couple of days for her to get the hang of it. Pull ups never helped my kids. The biggest key to know when they're ready is when they can recognize most of the time that they have the urge to go potty. If they don't then you'll be wasting your time & get frustrated. I did that with Taylor & Jayde where I started too early and it backfired on me. Had to pack it up and wait another couple of months. My 3 girls were about 2.5-3 yrs old when it was successful for us. Good luck girl! Email me if you have any questions. love ya!
Darling pictures of the girls. Yes, they are both beautiful. I love the "we are fest friends, huh mom." That cracks me up! I'll bet it's so hard to move to a totally new place. I miss you guys too! Good luck!
The only advice for potty training is, don't use pull ups. You have to go cold turkey and put them in big girl panties. Also teach the difference between wet and dry. It's hard to believe but they usually don't know the diff and it makes it easier for them when you ask 'are you wet or dry?'. Also, you are not 'training' them. They have to learn and you are the cheerleader. Good luck. It is stressful but sooooo worth it.
we have done a bit of potty work. our pediatrician swears by the follow mom into the bathroom and watch her go in the potty and then they do it when they want to. also, he says to make it a normal thing when they go, don't throw a party or give them treats, just let her know that she did a good job and leave it at that. i have also heard that the pull ups are just confusing for them. we miss you and are glad that you arrived safely. did you hear bruschkie is moving to china?
Nellie!!! Oh my gosh, I was just thinking about you the other day and here I feel upon your blog. Wow! You have beautiful girls, and you live in Guam! Wow, what a lifestyle. You said that your husband is deploying, what branch of the military is he? My husband is currently in Iraq so I can empathize with you. Please drop me an email, I'd love to catch up with you.

Best advice I can offer on the potty training front is DON'T PUSH IT!! I was a perfect mom (really) until I caved into the pressure I felt from watching my friends potty train their 2 year olds and decided it was time to force it upon my first child when she was also 2. I felt more aggravation over that than anything I had experienced as a mom up to that point. I wish I had let her guide me on her potty training; when she was truly ready rather than when I thought she SHOULD be ready is the time I should have worked on it. Some are ready at 2 and some are ready at 2 1/2 and some at 3. In the end, it doesn't matter how old they are but it matters that they are ready. If you begin to feel ANY frustration over it, back off of it for a while and try again later.
Your girls are beautiful.
Hang in there. Moving takes time, but sometimes friends come from unlikely candidates. Don't let age or stage of life hold you back from discovering a friend. :)
Well, Mads is almost 3, and still in diapers. I decided I would totally back off and let her do it on her own. She is the type that if I push it at all, she aint gonna do it! More and more often I find her in the bathroom sitting on the potty-all proud of herself. It is by no means consistent but I know one day she will just get it. She gets to put a sticker on a chart if she does it. So-if you find something that works, you let me know! And you are one of the nicest people I have EVER met, you are gonna be fine! You will have tons of friends there in no time!
Hey Nellie! I'm so glad that you posted! Your kids are too cute! Maya looks so much like you! I love Analia's beautiful strawberry blonde, ringlet hair!
Good luck on the potty training. I don't have any advise because I'm right there with you.. I think Claira's ready, and we're finally in our house so I think I'm ready too! I'll let you know how it goes and if I come across any valuable information.
Hi Nellie,
We miss you guys and hope the friend search produces some cool Guamanians. What is a person from Guam called? I am ignorant. Anyway, Ainsley's been living life in panties for about 2 weeks and I second what a bunch of people have said. If I put her in pull ups she just pees in them. I just had to decide she's wearing panties. Now, if you decide this and you're cleaning up pee all day long, I don't think it's time. I just gave Ainsley tons to drink the first day and she got lots of practice. It was a day at home full of potty trips. She totally peed on Cristy clayton's floor at play group the other day and it was horrible. some days are better than others. Good luck. I'm from the school of thought that you "train" them the way you want to. There's no magic way or best book to read. Good luck!
So good seeing you guys! You look happy and well. You were missed at the wedding!
Miss you too Nells, TONS!
Hi Nellie! Your kids are beautiful! I miss you too, especially since I'm in charge of a fabric swap for a fall stack and wack quilt.
I don't have any really good advice about potty training; we avoided the whole issue until he was nearly 4 and then announced to him that he wore big kid underpants, and not diapers any more. It was a pretty lazy way to do it, but it was also zero stress.
You have such cute girls! Looks like you guys are pretty busy with the move. I can't beleive how fast Analia is getting! Aah! It seems like we were both just pregnant and dying in the heat at track practice! By the way Highland XC is doing AWESOME! If you are out here during the state race you should come...they would love to see you!!! K good luck with EVERYTHING!
Guess what? It's time to post something new! I get on like every three days and check to see how things are for you guys and... NOTHING:)
I love the pictures! I am in love with Maya's big eyes! You definitely have two beautiful little girls. I am impressed that Analia got the mascara in the correct spot! As far as the potty training - good luck! I have no experience in this department.
